If you want to keep warm...wear one of these!

Last year, we had an event here that was supposed to bring the world's attention to global warming. The whole of Iqaluit and Apex were invited to attend! Anyone with traditional garb was asked to wear it.

The purpose was to create the outline of a drum dancer on the ice and the words "Warning, Global Warming" using people. There were two "movie stars" that came up here for it. (I have no idea who they were.) The unfortunate thing was that it was an extremely cold day with quite a bit of wind. The organizers asked everyone to be out in Apex, at the Rotary Park, at about 1:30 and then they didn't even start getting people down onto the sea ice until something like 3:00.

If you look in the middle of this picture, at the bottom of the hill in the forefront, you will see some black speckles. Those are actually people gathered on the sea ice getting ready to form the shape of the drum dancer. Once they got in their positions, arial shots were taken from helecopter. I took this picture from the end of our street. We were on our way home by then!!

I had taken the kids. After about 30-45 minutes, Alexander was freezing and I couldn't justify having Alexander get frostbite for the sake of this picture...as important as the message was. Kaisa was warm enough because she was in the amotiq.
